Motor City: Open for business
On my short list of “Best Bus Trips Ever” (and remind me to make that its own blog post) is the time I and a veritable “Who’s Who” of 50 community leaders from Grand Rapids, Michigan boarded a charter bus and embarked on an all-day tour of downtown Detroit.
I took this photo during a mid-day pitstop at Motor City Brew Works. Fitting, given the theme of the trip. This video from Rapid Growth Media (courtesy Grand Rapids Social Diary) details our entire tour to the Motor City reborn.
Also the way: my first trip to Avalon Bakery and Slow’s BBQ along Cass Corridor, an urban garden, the Heidelberg Project, the College for Creative Studies, the Rattlesnake Club, a nighttime art exhibit and plenty of memorable encounters with 50 of my new best friends. Though I’ve worked in downtown Detroit in the past and lived in the surrounding suburbs, quite frankly I hadn’t seen much of the beautiful underbelly of the city until this trip. Well worth playing hooky for a day.
And, here’s sort of a neat black-and-white of me in mid-snap, plus one color of our entire tour group in front of the Motown Museum.
